About

Who writes this, and who pays for it

iamonmybreak is a free publication for people who trade hours for money on someone else's clock. It points at your paycheque the kind of information the people at the top have always kept for themselves.

Who writes it

Jose Gerardo Gonzalez Barron writes The Ledger, the Moves, and compiles the Facts. Where a piece is a short dispatch rather than reported work, it runs as "the iamonmybreak desk".

How the facts are checked

Every fact on this site carries the date it took effect and a link to the government page it came from. Before an approved update, a checker re-opens each source and looks for the exact claim. A green mark shows the date that last succeeded.

Archived copies may support explicitly historical claims, never current applicability. Punctuation or page markup may differ, but token overlap alone is not proof. A fact without current approved proof stays off these pages until a person fixes it, and the held count is printed on the Facts index rather than hidden.

Right now 440 facts have passed their check and are published; 469 are being re-checked and are held back.

How it is funded, in the open

SourceThis yearWhat they get
Grants and foundations$0Nothing editorial. Ever.
Civic partnerships — paid, labelled messages from public bodies and non-profits$0A labelled message to readers. No say in what we cover.
Affiliate links$0A small payment if you sign up. Always labelled in the sentence, never in a footnote.
Members, the book, the audiobook$0Objects. Never information the free reader is denied.

Updated quarterly. The reader is never charged for information.

Independence

No sponsor, partner, or funder sees a piece before it is published, and none may ask for a change after. A partner who asks loses the partnership. If a funder ever required us to narrow who we serve, we would drop the funding rather than the mission.

Corrections

When we get something wrong we fix it here, with the date and what changed. Nothing is quietly edited.

  • No corrections yet. This list starts empty and stays honest.

What this is not

General information for working people, not legal, tax, immigration, or financial advice about your own situation. Rules differ by province and change; the date on each page is when we last checked. For your own case, a free community legal clinic, a settlement agency, or your provincial labour standards office is the right door.
